If you ever wondered what a chicken looks like when they are truly mad as hell.. well – this is what they probably look like. Betty has been a naughty little chicken for the past week now.. It started with her usual bossing young Lola around. Then.. whilst G and I enjoyed a refreshing pepsi after some hard yard work – Betty decided to ‘mount’ Lola at our feet.
We were not impressed by her actions.. I shooed her away from Lola. I know they have a ‘pecking order’ and all.. but she had gone too far. LOL
Then yesterday – I was doing some work around the house when all of a sudden I heard a very distressed Betty clucking and screeching. I ran down the pathway as fast as I could.. I found Betty on the ramp in the chicken coop – leading up to her nesting area. She and Frannie share the same laying area – Frannie lays in the morning between 7-9 am and then Betty usually lays in the afternoon 12-2pm. Anyway.. Betty is standing there clucking, screeching and flapping her wings.. she looks and sounds like a fox is after her and she’s scared to death. I look in the coop – in Betty’s laying area – and there is little Lola.. sitting sweetly .. she looked so innocent… like she didn’t even know why she was there – much less why Betty was so angry and disturbed by it.
I talked Betty out of the coop, and watched young Lola for a bit. She was so adorable! She was sitting down – but gathering strands of hay – one piece at a time and pulling them up around her body.. It was the sweetest thing to watch.. poor little thing – she didn’t know why she was there.. she got up about 30 minutes later – no egg. But she is preparing just in case. I don’t know what they are going to do.. the three of them. All that space and they all want that nesting area! I think it’s the prime location because they can sit with their little back up against the coop corner and still see the doorway. Probably the ’safest’ place.. I hope they can work it out.. lol.. without too much clucking!
